Morgan Roadster

Well, isn’t this a trip down memory lane! These Morgan have a huge fan following with their unique hand made construction methods. This Roadster V6 has the perfect balance of performance and looks. The owner decided to have it restored with a multi-stage machine correction, and protected with ceramic coating.

The finished product above, as you can see, looks fantastic - But how did we get there? Well, it wasn’t a quick or easy process.

This lovely classic motor came in rather dirty and faded, and certainly in need of some love and restoration. The wire wheels were very dirty, and the paint heavily swirled and oxidised. The paint on this car is “single stage” meaning it has no clear lacquer on top. This type of paint is more prone to oxidising as there is no UV protection (lacquer).

As per usual we began with our standard decontamination wash prep with our 0 TDS “spotless water" for zero water marks. This involves a thorough 2 bucket wash of the vehicle, cleaning of the lovely wire wheels including the barrels, engine bay, wheel arches and other trim areas. We chemically remove tar, tree sap and iron-fallout. We complete a clay bar treatment if necessary, which it was on this vehicle.

Once all of the necessary prep was complete we took the car inside, dried it with a heated and filtered air drier and microfibre towels, and began the necessary polishing work. The car required approximately 30 hours of polishing, due to the very fiddly nature and the many angular sections - resulting in having to use the smaller polishers for much of the job.

When we mentioned the single stage paint, this means there is a lot of paint transfer, which turns the polishing pads body colour and require regular cleaning out / replacement pads. You can see the residue in the photo below, as well as the before and afters.

Once the whole car was given the necessary love and attention to restore the faded paint and remove the swirls and other defects, the car was fully wiped down ready for coating, and then we applied a 3 year Gyeon ceramic coating for some durable protection and to help prevent further oxidisation of the paint.

We also installed some Paint Protection Film (PPF - Clear Bra) to the side sills and the rear arches to give some protection from getting in and out , and from stone chips and road rash.
