The Process
It all starts with the initial wash of the vehicle to remove loose dirt, using techniques to minimise contact and therefore not cause any more marks.
The wheels are cleaned, with a number of PH neutral cleaners, fallout and tar removers and soft brushes to gently clean the faces, inner barrels, brake callipers and tyres. Additional brushes and a pressure washer are used to clean the wheel arches.
During this process we use a number of pre-cleaning agents not limited to citrus pre cleaners, PH neutral snow foams and a variety of brushes to agitate the hard to reach areas such as around badges, vents, exterior trim, door hinges and window channels. As well as a thorough clean of the engine bay, the vehicle is then rinsed once more to remove any heavy soiling and loose dirt before being washed from top to bottom with a PH neutral shampoo and a soft lambswool mitt. We use the two bucket method, including grit guards, to prevent any further imperfections to your vehicle’s paintwork.
Once the vehicle has been cleaned, we then proceed to use fallout and tar removal products, prior to using a non abrasive clay bar if necessary, as the final step in the decontamination process.
The vehicle is then rinsed once more and dried using a combination of high powered heated air and ultra-soft premium drying towels. This ensures water does not drip down later which can interfere with the polishing process and means we do not inflict any further damage during the drying process by making it as contactless as possible.
After being completely dried, the delicate parts of the car (such as trims and unpainted plastic bumpers) are taped up using a specialist low-tack tape and the car is given a final inspection. The paint depths are then checked using state of the art gauges before any polishing takes place.
Using a variety of high quality tools from manufacturers such as Rupes and Flex, every area of the vehicle is given multiple stages of polishing to achieve the desired results. The paint is constantly inspected with adjustable colour match lights to ensure it looks perfect when the vehicle rolls outside on your (hopefully sunny) collection day.
In an Enhancement Detail, typically a two-stage process (generally a cut and refinement) is used to remove the majority of swirls and bring huge increases to the gloss level. This is the perfect level of work for newer, daily driven vehicles and aims to remove 90-95% of visible swirls and scratches
In a Correction Detail, which is the next level up from an Enhancement, the car undergoes every step necessary to achieve perfection - This can include wet sanding of the entire vehicle if required to create a perfect mirror finish, removal of ingrained paint defects (solvent pop, etc, from respray processes) and localised touch ups. This is ideal for cherished vehicles where only perfection will do.
After the necessary machine polishing work has been carried out, the vehicle is then completely cleaned of any polishing dust and residual oils by means of a specialised panel wipe, leaving a perfectly finished, bare surface ready for the application of the coating of the customer’s choosing, whether this is a traditional wax, multi-year ceramic coating or Paint Protection Film - in the case of vehicles with ceramic coatings applied the vehicle is kept for a further 24hr indoors to allow the coating to cure. Ceramic coatings can be applied on top of PPF as well.
We can also refurbish your wheels while your vehicle is with us, and even replace tyres if needed.
The interior receives a vacuum and clean with any loose items being collected and returned to the owner. Glass internally and externally is thoroughly cleaned, and a hydrophobic glass coating is applied - with dashboards and door cards being wiped down and dressed with a natural finish non silicon dressing. Unpainted / textured plastic trim are also dressed.
The exhaust tips are polished, tyres are dressed and final wipe downs completed prior to handing back to the owner.
Optionally, alloy wheels can be removed from the vehicle, with further decontamination as required. They are polished and a high temperature ceramic coating is applied to the barrel, spokes and the face of the wheels, as well as the brake callipers. The wheels are then re-fitted and torqued to factory specifications.
Further options are available such as interior fabric and leather protectant coatings, de-odourising and wet vac of seats, mats and carpets, steam cleaning, as well as additional options such, convertible roof cleaning and coating, and more.
How long does it take and what is the cost?
As an idea of timescales, an Enhancement Detail (90-95% defect removal) generally takes 4-5 days, and a Correction Detail (90-95%+ defect removal , plus orange peel removal etc) usually takes 5-8 days.
Based on a typical sized car (eg: Audi A4) an Enhancement Detail costs £850
A smaller car (eg: VW Polo) would be slightly less and a larger vehicle (eg: Range Rover) would be slightly more due to the time required.
This is finished with a ceramic coating such as Gyeon Pure (3 year Ceramic Coating) and includes exterior hydrophobic glass coatings.
Upgraded multi layer ceramic coatings are available.
